Orenburgneft Received a Record Oil production from Carbonate Formations

Specialists of Orenburgneft JSC, a Rosneft subsidiary, commissioned the first horizontal wells in the carbonate formations of Perm deposits *. Thanks to the selection of the optimal method for developing subsoil with a complex geological structure, the starting production rate was 100 tons of oil per day. This is a record indicator for the Russian oil industry when drilling for shallow-lying carbonate deposits (the depth of the objects is not more than 800 m.).

The field development program, within the license blocks of Orenburgneft, provides for the further drilling of horizontal wells at the Perm deposits. This will allow involving more than 6 million tons in development. recoverable reserves of the Pokrovsky and Bobrovsky deposits in the next 5 years, and also to achieve high rates of economic efficiency of drilling.

Carbonate formations are a promising source of hydrocarbon production. They are characterized by significant heterogeneity. About 1/4 of the world’s proven gas reserves are contained in Perm beds. In addition to the reserves of traditional hydrocarbons, a significant potential of high-viscosity oils and bitumen is concentrated here .
